Samaneh Oladi became acquainted with the Global and International Studies program when she moved to the United States through Fulbright program from Iran. She applied to MAGIS because she was inspired by some of the faculty who were teaching in the program. She has an M.A. degree in education from Tehran University in Iran. She decided to change her field of study to Global and International Studies in order to make a more influential contribution to humanity. This was the best decision she has made thus far. She is interested in the role civil society plays in promoting human rights and new world order. During summer 2007, she interned in Washington, D.C. with Global Exchange, an NGO international human rights organization dedicated to promoting social, economic and environmental justice around the world. In fall, she taught Persian language courses for the Middle Eastern Studies program at UC Santa Barbara while completing her M.A. Her thesis is titled, “Iranian Women’s Involvement in Civil Society: A Quest for Change.” Samaneh is currently completing her PhD in Religious Studies at UC Santa Barbara.
