Sergey was born in Potsdam, Germany but grew up in Southern Russia near the Caucasus Mountains.
He recently obtained his Mater in Arts degree in Global & International Studies from UCSB. Currently, Sergey is pursuing his Ph.D degree at the department of history at the UCSB. As a graduate student in the department he hopes to explore cultural intersections, intellectual exchanges and military rivalries that unfolded between the Russian Empire and Persian Empire in the XIX century. The Caucasus Mountains became the chief locale of the Empires’ struggle for influence and control in the region. These clashes and interactions had generated a fascinating tapestry of events and ideas that defined the relations of the two countries for decades.
